Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

For more than thirteen years, the hospital has maintained a highly  specialized focus on the tiniest of patients with a complete Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A clinical services area of the children's hospital, the NICU provides compassionate care for sick and premature infants with complex healthcare needs.

The unit includes state-of-the-art Neonatal incubators, four of which are of a special model, the GE Giraffe Omnibed. These incubators, also known as isolettes provide a safe, warm environment for premature babies to grow until  they reach approximately 3 1/2 to 4 pounds and can maintain their temperature in a bassinet. The NICU can currently hold up to 22 patients and has the capability to support patients in the nursery should additional space be needed.

The NICU has an open floor plan with significant space between isolettes and a privacy curtain. The facility also contains four private rooms which are utilized by patients requiring additional care and support.  It is the goal of the NICU to move to all private rooms in the next 4-5  years. Providing the same great care, but offering more privacy for the families  and a place for the families to sleep should they want to stay in the room with their child.
